Where is the Heritage Corridor?
The Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) encompasses the communities and counties along the historic 97-mile Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. The Heritage Corridor spans from the Chicago Portage Area just southwest of Chicago to LaSalle-Peru including the counties of Will, Grundy, LaSalle and Putnam. The region conveniently located along I-55 from Chicago to Joliet along I-80 west to LaSalle-Peru.

Columbia Woods offers a relaxing place to fish and enjoy a picnic. Columbia Woods is part of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and ideally situated along the Des Plaines River in Willow Springs. The forest preserve is also home to biking trails and a launching pad for canoeing in the Des Plaines River. A host for the event, “A River Thru History, which is held each September and takes you back 200 years into Chicago’s past with a festive gathering of fur trappers, settles, craftsmen, along the banks of the Des Plaines River. Columbia Woods allows you to feel like you are out of the city and soak in the beauty of the Des Plaines River.
